Helping young adults tell their stories effectively is an exciting, rewarding process for me.

Sarah Binau

Bexley High School ‘15, Pomona College ‘19, Fulbright 2020

I teach young adults to produce high quality, genuine essays that enhance their college applications.

Who am I? I am a writer, teacher, and educational consultant. I’ve spent the last three years living in Spain and Brazil. I grew up in Bexley, Ohio, where I’m currently located.

What do I do as a writing tutor? I coax memorable stories from students’ ideas in order to transform them into solid, easy-to-read statements for tired admissions officers. I work in 60-minute sessions, 100% online, with flexible scheduling.

What do I do as an essay consultant? I copyedit complete texts via e-mail and provide comments, corrections, and suggestions. This is best for students who already have fully-formed texts and are preparing to submit. I scrub grammatical errors and ambiguous constructions, identify your theme, and make suggestions to strengthen your text.

Where did I learn? I’m an alumna of Bexley High School (2015), Pomona College (2019), and The Fulbright Program (2020). I was a co-editor of Bexley’s newspaper, a writing tutor at Pomona, and an English teacher in Brazil through Fulbright.

What drives me? I’m passionate about language and communication. Every student has a unique story, and my job is to help them see it, write it, and edit it. My Bachelor’s degree is in Cognitive Science, with emphases on Linguistics and the human propensity for storytelling. I’m fascinated by our storytelling abilities. I speak fluent Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, and I study a handful of other languages (currently Russian and French).

Why me? I know the process from the inside. I’ve been admitted to, attended, and tutored at a top liberal arts college. I’ve gained first-hand experience crafting, editing, and finalizing admissions and grant essays. I love coaching others to do the same.
